HISTORY
Released in 2002 as a limited edition of 100 pieces, this reversible souvenir jacket represents a rare collaboration between Jean Paul Gaultier and Japanese embroidery specialist Tailor Toyo. The project merged Gaultier’s Paris-centric visual language with the traditional Japanese sukajan, a postwar souvenir jacket characterized by satin construction and dense embroidery. One side references Parisian landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Moulin Rouge, while the reverse presents a dramatic fighting rooster motif, reflecting Gaultier’s long-standing interest in cultural hybridity and symbolic imagery.
